Sweden's Karolinska Institute and his colleagues, Dr W Ye-year period 1965-1994 due to alcoholism (178,688 cases), chronic alcohol-induced pancreatitis (3,500 cases), chronic non-alcoholic pancreatitis (4,952 cases), alcohol liver cirrhosis (13,553 cases) and non-alcoholic cirrhosis (7,057 cases) of pancreatic cancer risk hospitalized patients were analyzed.

The results showed that alcohol would only raise the risk of pancreatic cancer increased 40% (SIR: 1.4,95% confidence interval (CI) :1.2-1 .5). Drinkers are more in smokers, drinkers and may confuse the true SIR, to a level of about 1.4. Chronic alcohol-induced pancreatitis in patients with SIR (2.2,95% CI :0.9-4 .5) was significantly lower than non-chronic alcoholic pancreatitis (8.7,95% CI :6.8-10 .9); two groups of patients with follow-up time of SIR extension to lower, suggesting that tumors are not diagnosed the cause of the increase of its influence.

The researchers noted that patients with alcoholic cirrhosis is also moderately elevated risk of pancreatic cancer (SIR: 1.9,95% CI :1.3-2 .8), but not in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis did not significantly increase the risk (SIR: 1.2,95% CI :0.6-2 .2).

Dr. Ye, alcohol consumption have occurred where the risk of pancreatic cancer may appear slightly elevated.
